"You need to respect my freedom to snack."

Calder's insatiable hunger is one of the best and worst things about him. Snacking is in his control Calder loves his snacks. He will take every single opportunity he can to snatch some up. Let's say you leave the pantry door open and go to sit on the couch. Boom! He's already bolting across the room and lunging in. Or how about not locking the fridge when you're done grabbing what you want (yes I know it sounds crazy, but we do that)? Calder will pop up from nowhere and viol

"We like the car because we feel sweet, calm and warm."

A hot car in the sun may seem like a terrible place to be, but for Calder it's great. Something abnormal might in fact be normal Calder loves the car. His joy for car rides knows no bounds and he even enjoys sitting in the car in the hot sun. It can be 90 degrees outside, and the only thing Calder wants to do is sit in the car and he won't even care about air conditioning. Now, this might seem odd. I mean, who would want to sit in a car without the AC on in 90-degree weather?

ABOUT US

My name is Jack and this blog is dedicated to my little brother Calder. Calder is non-verbal autistic so he cannot communicate with people in a standard conversation. Even though he doesn’t have speech, Calder can express himself in many different ways, mainly by typing on his i-Pad. Calder also refers to himself with we instead of I. He’s shown me that he’s funny, stubborn, and wise. And he wants to be heard.

Through this blog, Calder and I get to connect, exchange ideas, and share insight into the world of autism. The autism spectrum is broad and varied. I’ve branded my brother’s as Calderism. He has a lot of funny phrases. Calder wants everyone to know “we are easy to love,” and that we need to respect his freedom to snack. He really likes cookies. Welcome!
